Bidding & Buying

Placing a bid

Only registered users can place bids. Your bid must be greater than or equal to the start price or the minimum next bid amount of the auction. If the reserve bid has been met, the item will sell to the highest bidder when the auction finishes.

If you are the highest bid at the close of the auction, and the auction has met its reserve price, then you are the winner. The reserve price is the lowest price the seller is willing to sell their item for.

Both you and the seller will receive automated emails from Uzanunua containing each others email addresses. It is then up to you and the seller to make contact and arrange both the payment and shipping details.

Minimum bid increments

Minimum bid increments are the next smallest bid amount that can be placed within a certain price range. This is to ensure that the next leading bid is meaningful.

Minimum bid increments are as follows: Up to KShs1,000 - KShs50
Between KShs1,000 and KShs10,000 - KShs100
Between KShs10,000 and KShs50,000 - KShs250
Between KShs50,000 and KShs250,000 - KShs500
Between KShs250,000 and KShs1,000,000 - KShs2,500
Over KShs1,000,000 - KShs5000

Placing a listing

To place a listing, first click the Sell Tab and follow the six easy-to-follow steps. The first step is choosing what kind of Auction you are running.

Once you have selected the appropriate auction, click Start Now. In the next screen (Category) you will next be prompted to select the best category and sub-category for your item. Choose this carefully as you want people to be able to find the item you are selling.

Once you have selected your category, click Select and you are then brought to the (Details) screen.

This screen is very important as it is where you will be filling the majority of information pertaining to the item you are selling. You will be prompted to fill in several fields of information.

The fields are the following:

Title
This is the name of your item. It’s always a good idea to be as accurate and specific as possible with your description.

Item Location
This is the city or town where you are selling your item from.

Detailed Description
This is where you provide a description for your item. Here you will provide an accurate description of your item so that buyers can be as well-informed as possible about it. Try and write a description that grabs their attention. This area cannot contain any contact information. Any auction that contains contact information in the detailed section will be immediately removed.

Number Of Days To Run
This is the number of days you want your auction to run for. The auction will begin running from the moment you post your item.

Start Price
This is price you will start your auction at. Setting a low start price will always attract more bidders to your auction. Remember you do not have to sell your item until you reserve price has been met.

Reserve Price
The reserve price (or reserve bid) is the lowest price you are willing to sell your item for. If the reserve price is not met by the close of the auction, the item will not be sold. The reserve price is hidden from buyers until after the auction is finished.

Buy It Now Price
Buy Now allows sellers to set a price for which they are willing to sell the item for immediately. If you have a set price in mind that you want to sell your item for, you can add the option of foregoing the auction process altogether by adding a Buy Now price. The Buy Now option is only available for buyers until the reserve price is met – after that the button is no longer visible for your item.

Shipping Details
This is where you specify how your item will be delivered to the buyer if your auction is successful.

New Item
Only select this if your item is brand new. Meaning it is either a brand new, unused, or unopened item.

Payment Methods
These are the methods of payment that you will accept if you successfully sell an item.

Once all your details are filled in, you will want to check them over once before hitting Next.

On the next page (Extras), you will find several options on how to promote your listing. These options are explained in the next section.

Once you have selected any Extra options, you will click next to the fifth page (Photos), where you will be prompted to add any photographs of your item. For General Items, the photos are free. Once you have selected your photos, hit Next one last time to take you to the (Confirm) screen.

Here, you will see all your details that you have selected about your listing. All you have to do now is hit Confirm and your item will immediately be posted on Uzanunua. From there, you can then see your auction page and accept bids from potential buyers.
